MILTON TRAGER 1908–1997 Milton Trager was a medical doctor and a movement educator, specializing in body-mind learning. He was a contemporary of Moshe Feldenkrais and Ida Rolf.

As a young man, he developed himself with gymnastics and boxing. Through his intensely physical pursuits, he arrived at his body-mind learning approach. At the time when Trager was starting his explorations, his father suffered with sciatic pain, and he learned to relieve the spasms by hand. In time he learned to help polio victims recover from their paralysis and others who suffered from pain and immobility. He obtained a degree in physical medicine before serving in the military during World War II. Upon his return, Trager completed his medical school education with his GI benefits. He established a private practice in Hawaii and spent the ensuing 40 years refining his body-mind learning approach and relieving suffering.

Dr. Trager established the Trager Institute in the 1980 to spread the approach that he developed. Trager lived with his wife Emily in Southern California at the time of his death in January 1997. The Trager Institute became Trager International in 2001, teaching the Trager Approach to thousands of students in over a dozen countries. Currently, there are over 1500 Certified Trager Practitioners throughout the world.
